It is projected that the gross non-local visitor spending in St. Albert, as a result of the existence of the facility, will be in the area of an additional $2.7 million each year. In addition, retained income in the community, which would be spent by St. Albert residents in other communities without the facility, is in the magnitude of $1.6 million. Therefore the overall impact to St. Albert is projected to be $4.8 million a year. This number is based on the facility being built at the Campbell site with the resulting three ice arenas. A smaller facility at another location will have a substantially lower economic benefit to the community, especially if the facility were located outside of St. Albert.
It will also mean that local money will stay in the community. Families will no longer have to travel to other communities where money is now being spent, but will remain in St. Albert.
servus credit union place has incorporated a number of sustainable building design solutions into the facility. The building is currently undergoing CDIP EE4, EE Wizard and DOE modeling. This ongoing assessment of the building and systems performance with various modeling tools allows us to determine the energy savings potential for the facility. In order to make the building more sustainable a number of methods have been utilized including low VOC emitting materials, recycled materials (i.e. entrance matting etc.), ventilation heat recovery for all areas, optimization of R values and envelope assembly, refrigeration plant heat recovery through an ice storage system (“eco-chill”) which can also be used for a cooling source for the building in summer, occupancy sensing lighting systems as well as high efficiency lighting fixtures selection. Low flow showerheads; dual flush toilets and waterless urinals will be installed as water conservation initiatives. As well, all systems within the building will be properly tested and commissioned though a fully developed commissioning plan.
The City of St. Albert’s forward thinking ideology of constructing many facilities (ice, field houses, swimming pool, fitness centre, running track, child play area, etc.) all under one roof, has afforded them the opportunity to provide the most sustainable design possible in comparison to building stand alone facilities and operating them independently. When all the facilities are constructed under one common roof there is an ability to share utilities, waste heat and cooling to make the building as energy efficient as possible which not only reduces operating costs but also has less impact on our environment.
There is parking capacity for over 1,200 vehicles directly on the site. This is sufficient for all uses of the facility including the spectator events arena.
