economic development, tourism and hotel
Q1. what are the economic benefits from this facility?
It is projected that the gross non-local visitor spending in St. Albert, as a result of the existence of the facility, will be in the area of an additional $2.7 million each year. In addition, retained income in the community, which would be spent by St. Albert residents in other communities without the facility, is in the magnitude of $1.6 million. Therefore the overall impact to St. Albert is projected to be $4.8 million a year. This number is based on the facility being built at the Campbell site with the resulting three ice arenas. A smaller facility at another location will have a substantially lower economic benefit to the community, especially if the facility were located outside of St. Albert.
It will also mean that local money will stay in the community. Families will no longer have to travel to other communities where money is now being spent, but will remain in St. Albert.
